If you want to build a house, you place timber upon timber, and then, brick upon brick. The same goes for building a better body. It starts with stretching, then walking, then running, then lifting a bit of weight, then a bit more. But just as you would not think of putting up a foundation, then going directly to adding a roof; you cannot expect to have massive “guns” before strengthening the tiny, pixie sticks you call arms. Oh, this must be ME I’m speaking of. Not so coincidently, you would not expect to have a glaring, shiny six pack underneath your shirt before you got rid of the pizza/nacho/beer & chips dough roll currently housed in your mid section. Ouch, that hurts.
One day at a time. One step at a time. Rome wasn’t built in a day; neither was Abb Ansley, one of the first Grand Champs in Body for Life. Yes, that’s his real name (see below). Abb is one of two of my “goals or visual mentors”. Look; we’re nearly the same age, he was 180 lb./20% BF, and I began at 205 pounds and 22% BF, with a 39 inch waist. Chris and I share the other “goal model”: Owen McKibbin. Yes, the Men’s Health Cover Model. That’s him, below Abb.
My goal? Building a new home (body) upon a strong foundation (health). Oh, and for those who think it’s all about this weight or that; It’s not about weight with me. Muscle weighs more than fat, and the fat will burn off, but the muscle will stack on. It’s about 2 things: Body fat (BF) and Waist size. My goal? Waist: 32. Body fat: 10%.
Chris and I are about to end the first 2 weeks (tomorrow), and frankly, it gets easier, as it gets harder. Why? Because we’re building one new habit atop another.
One singular, focused, well-executed step at a time.
Luke 6:48, “He is like a man building a house, who went deep and put the base of it on a rock; and when the water came up and the river was driving against that house, it was not moved, because the building was good.” (plain english version)
